Voided check
A voided check is a check with VOID written across the front so it cannot be cashed. People give one to set up direct deposit or automatic payments because it shows the routing and account numbers.
How to void one
Write VOID in large letters across the front, over the signature and amount areas. Do not sign it.
Alternatives
Many banks also provide a direct deposit form or account letter.

Practice payee, amount in words, and print — no bank numbers, marked not negotiable.
Questions
Is it safe to share a voided check?
It reveals your routing and account numbers, so share only with trusted organisations.
What if I have no checks?
Ask your bank for a direct deposit authorisation form.
