Check printing software
Check printing software formats payee, amount and date onto a check and prints it on blank or pre-printed stock. Most tools add a MICR line, saved bank accounts and batch printing. Pick one that matches how many checks you print each month.
What to compare
Look at MICR support, whether it prints on blank stock, batch printing from a spreadsheet, accounting imports, and whether pricing is public. Some vendors have grown into full payment platforms; others only print.
Before you print real checks
A bank must be able to read the MICR line (routing number, account number, check number) at the bottom of the check, so confirm requirements with your bank before you print real checks.
Try a SAMPLE layout
Practice payee, amount in words, and print — no bank numbers, marked not negotiable.
Questions
Is it legal to print my own business checks?
Generally yes in the US, provided the check meets the bank's MICR and format requirements. Ask your bank if you are unsure.
Do I need special paper?
Many tools print on blank check stock that has security features. Some print on plain paper with a MICR-ready layout; check what your bank accepts.
